Gestalt

When using the gestalt rules, choose two classes to take simultaneously. You receive the following abilities and features:

  • The higher of the two class Hit Die.
  • All class skills listed from both classes.
  • The higher of the two class skills per level.
  • All listed class features except those that are broadly the same class feature (ie, a bloodrager/barbarian gestalt would only gain one pool of rage, but could utilize bloodcasting, bloodline abilities, and rage powers while raging; while a swashbuckler/gunslinger would have one pool of grit/panache but would gain from both Wisdom and Charisma scores.)
  • Spellcasting from both classes as separate spell lists and slots. (Even for classes that share a spell list, such as sorcerer/wizard. Classes that use spellbooks must still spend money to scribe a spell known in one spellbook to scribe it into the spellbook for the other class and must maintain two spellbooks.)
  • The higher BAB and base saving throw bonuses of the two classes.
  • Any restrictions (such as alignment) must be met for BOTH classes. This may make some combinations impossible.

When gaining a new level with gestalt rules, you may choose to gain levels in both classes or in new classes. If you select a prestige class that advances a class feature (such as spellcasting or sneak attack), you only improve that feature if the other class you take does not improve the same feature. You gain the greater of your new classes HD, skills per level, BAB and saving throw bonuses. If you gain a class feature that you already have that improves based on having a different one (such as uncanny dodge and improved uncanny dodge), you do not gain the better ability until the class you originally gained the lesser ability in grants it, or until you have reached the level you would normally have received the greater ability.

Important Notes

The intent of these rules is to combine class capabilities into a new and interesting concept. I cannot cover all possible combinations in this document. Class features that are essentially the same should not be combined or expected to work together. Replacements for duplicated class features are not offered unless you wish to have a custom archetype created. If prior to play or during play, a combination is found to be disruptive to the enjoyment of other players or severely disruptive to my ability to run the game, it can and will be disallowed. A free opportunity to remake a character will be offered.
