The perpetrator of some of the attacks along the Opparan Highway as it passes Lauchlein Lake, Atratus is not mortal. A fey creature known as a swan maiden, she is the sworn guardian of the lake and has been for millennia. Her wrath was only roused when Count Lotheed, in a rash and ill-considered attempt to rid the lake of Atratus, dumped an ochre jelly into the lake.
Unable to defeat the jelly with her sword and bow, but easily able to escape it with her ability to turn into a swan and fly away, she has been in a deadlock with the ooze for years. The mindless thing has nearly killed the lake, consuming the fish and other life in it and poisoning the lake shores.
Because of this, she has taken to attacking those who appear to be nobility as retribution as they pass along the road. She hates Count Lotheed with a passion, and blames the rest of his ilk for his misdeeds. However, she recognizes the plight of the common folk and leaves them alone.
The party encountered Atratus at Lauchlein Lake. She accosted them while they were investigating the attacks, but unable to harm Artorius with her bow, she decided to talk. The party found and slew the ochre jelly, and in gratitude, she granted them materials she had taken from a merchant as well as an ancient artifact called The Subtle Mask.
While she is uninterested in human politics, she is quite angry at Count Lotheed. She may be a useful ally against him, but will not leave the lake for long.
