A semi-professional militia in Zimar, the Jalrune Shield are named for the river that traditionally has stood as the symbolic if not actual border between Taldor and Qadira. It is commonly claimed that the Shield stands at 50,000 strong, roughly the military age population of Zimar, but its actual strength is quite a bit lower at any given time. Most citizens do nothing more than the required monthly training day, with roughly 1,000 more dedicated members at arms at all times.
The commanding officer of the Jalrune Shields, who enjoys the grandiose title of The First Spear Over the Jalrune, is one Ordakis Dragoumis. His claims to have served Julian Pythareus, the High Strategos’ late father, is dubious at best.
