Martella Lotheed is a bastard. The daughter of Mercator Lotheed, the former Count of Meratt, and a Qadiran ambassador, she has never fit in with her family. In addition to being half-Qadiran, she has no magic, a damning disability among the magically gifted Lotheeds.
Having met Princess Eutropia at school, she quickly became her spymaster. Gathering agents and others who believe in Eutropia’s vision of a better future for Taldor, she has deployed these agents to dig up information, blackmail the opposition, sway opinions, and ensure that nothing would stand in her friend’s way.
Martella may not be able to cast spells, but she inherited the Lotheed intelligence, which she bends toward alchemy and mechanical gadgets.
