There can be no doubt that of all the Taldans who have ever lived, none can be greater than the founder of the empire, Taldaris the First Emperor. Stories of his incredible achievements have resonated through Taldor’s history, but vanishingly few of them encompass the truth of what made him such a great man. For centuries, his legend has shifted and flowed, becoming the Taldaris that his nation needed, while losing much of his truth.
As time has passed, the tales of his life have become something entirely separate from him. For each role he was made to play, there is a legendary spark. Some are tiny, barely remembered roles such as Taldaris the Storyteller, or Taldaris the Giftbringer. Others soar above all others, grand and terrible legends that eclipse everything else around them.
Of these legends, one is mightier and more terrible than all others. This is Taldaris the Lion, the grim and conquest-hungry warlord whose invisible armies forcibly united the disparate Taldan city-states, and whose indomitable sword arm laid low the mightiest warriors these pitiful city-states could field against him. This is the Taldaris who left a path of blood across the world and whom even the gods could not humble. The Taldaris who slew the baleful grogrisant with his bare hands and broke the back of Verksaris the Kingeater.
